Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Ultimate Wolverine #2! Wolverine’s adamantium claws are capable of slicing through just about anything and anyone. It’s this fact alone that almost makes Logan’s Weapon X torture worth it, as he truly did receive a major upgrade after it was all said and done. However, in Marvel Comics’ latest Wolverine comic series, the iconic X-Men hero has seemingly just made an enemy of the one villain his claws can’t cut.

In an unlettered preview for Ultimate Wolverine #2 by Chris Condon and Alessandro Cappuccio, readers are given a sneak-peek at the upcoming issue with four pages that merely tease what fans can expect.

The first page shows the Maker himself snooping around a mysterious building, presumably having just murdered the person lying face-down at their desk, looking for something in particular. Before long, the evil Reed Richards finds what he’s looking for: a picture of Wolverine. The Maker then leaves the building, burning it to the ground as he walks away. The other three pages show Wolverine hunting soldiers in the snowy woods, the Rasputins being cruel to one of their Directorate X scientists, and Colossus putting Wolverine in his place by throwing him across a room.

What Did Wolverine Do To Invoke The Maker’s Wrath in the Ultimate Universe?

The Maker Seems Angry with Wolverine, & That is Not Good

It seems the Maker has a bone to pick with Ultimate Wolverine in this upcoming issue, though given the lack of context, dialogue, and narration, it’s impossible to know exactly why. The only thing fans know for sure is that Wolverine making an enemy of the Maker is not good news for him for a number of reasons.

Firstly, Wolverine’s claws physically have no effect on the Maker, proven true when Wolverine tries to kill Earth-616 Reed Richards in Wolverine Vol. 3 #22. The Maker has all the same powers as Marvel Comics’ prime universe’s Reed Richards, so if Wolverine can’t cut one Reed, he can’t cut the other.

Secondly, the Maker is the unchallenged ruler of the entire world in the new Ultimate Universe of Earth-6160. He has the power to travel between universes and slide through time at will, not to mention his global influence that he created with his Maker’s Council. Going up against the Maker is a losing battle for anyone, and it seems Wolverine might experience that for himself very soon.

This Scene Could Be the True Origin of Ultimate Wolverine

Perhaps this scene in Ultimate Wolverine #2 wasn’t shown to indicate that the Maker and Wolverine are enemies, but rather the true origin of Ultimate Wolverine in Earth-6160. The Maker originally traveled to Earth-6160 to reshape it to his liking, and that includes sliding through time and neutralizing/manipulating heroes and villains to join him in his cause. Since the Maker is familiar with Wolverine from Earth-616 and Earth-1610, it’s possible that this scene is showing the Maker tracking down Earth-6160’s Wolverine when he first arrived in that universe, marking him for his own version of Weapon X experimentation.

It Took 50 Years, But Wolverine’s Final Form Is Here And Is Totally Terrifying

Wolverine was introduced 50 years ago, and now, he’s finally reached his final form with a definitive origin story and a heightened level of violence.

Fans know that Ultimate Wolverine was created by the Rasputins under direct orders from the Maker, and this scene could be the moment the Maker found Earth-6160’s Logan. Of course, it’s also possible that this scene marks the moment the Maker begins to view Wolverine as an enemy, in which case, Wolverine is in big trouble, as the Maker is a Marvel Comics villain who his claws can’t cut.

Ultimate Wolverine #2 by Marvel Comics is available February 19, 2025.

Wolverine

The human mutant Wolverine (a.k.a. Logan) was born James Howlett, blessed with a superhuman healing factor, senses, and physiology. Subjecting himself to experimentation to augment his skeleton and claws with adamantium, Logan is as deadly as he is reckless, impulsive, and short-tempered. Making him the X-Men’s wildest and deadliest member, and one of Marvel Comics’ biggest stars. He’s played in Fox and Marvel’s movie franchises by Hugh Jackman.
