The following contains major spoilers for All-New Venom #2, on sale now from Marvel Comics.
At least one of the prime suspects in the case of Marvel’s All-New Venom has been cleared.
While the rest of New York City is abuzz with all manner of theories regarding the true identity of the hero, or villain, behind the symbiote at the heart of Marvel’s All-New Venom #2, the titular Lethal Protector is busy taking down whatever threats arise next. For now, that threat just so happens to be a band of A.I.M. agents packing some serious heat. Of course, it is nothing that Venom can’t handle, although the fact that he takes the time to avoid their shots rather than taking them to the face seems to rule Luke Cage out as the man behind the oozing, symbiote mask altogether.

Marvel Comics’ All-New Venom follows hot on the heels of the recently concluded Venom War crossover storyline. When both Eddie and Dylan Brock received horrifying visions of what the future would hold if the other maintained their bond with the Venom symbiote, father and son were driven to wage war against one another. This culminated in a battle between two distinct teams of symbiotes, not to mention a whole host of villains who tried to take advantage of the chaos that ensued.
When Venom War came to an end, the Venom symbiote itself was seemingly destroyed, while the rest of those caught in the middle of the fray were left scattered and in disarray. Since then, Dylan has found a home for himself with Mary Jane Watson and her partner, Paul, the latter of whom has developed a fraught relationship with the young Brock, to say very the least. Fortunately, the trio have still managed to help one another hunt down any leads they can regarding the identity of the All-New Venom, with Dylan hoping to reunite with his old symbiote once more.

When All-New Venom began, there were four key suspects as to who could be behind the symbiote. One of these was New York City’s very own Mayor Luke Cage, whose history as a hero made him an easy pick for the symbiote’s new host. With Luke no longer on the suspect list, the remaining three consist of acclaimed reporter Robbie Roberston, career sidekick Rick Jones, and the malevolent Madame Masque, who was behind one of the city’s most devastating events in the form of Marvel Comics’ Gang War.
