Warning: Spoilers for The Ultimates #8Reed Richards has always tried to use his frightening intelligence to make the world a better place. But that’s not the case for his evil doppelgänger known as the Maker. The Maker has been a consistent threat in the multiverse, and it seems that this threat is only going to grow, as Marvel has revealed his new title will possibly be the Unmaker.

This frightening revelation is shown in The Ultimates #8 by Deniz Camp and Juan Frigeri. When the Ultimate version of the Guardians of the Galaxy returns to the past to retrieve America Chavez, the team has shocking news about the future. While things seem mostly okay in the future, the Guardians begin sensing major time disturbances from the 21st century.

When they send a team back in time to check it out, every single member is killed, except for one, who warns of the chilling return of the character who will soon be known as “the Unmaker.

The Maker – an Evil Reed Richards – Is Preparing for a Big Return as the Unmaker

The Ultimates #8 by Deniz Camp, Juan Frigeri, Federico Blee, and Travis Lanham

This teaser is one of the first things that readers have heard about the Maker since he was sealed away over a year ago in the City. If the Maker truly returns as something much darker and more destructive, the Unmaker is a terrifying name for his dark potential. It’s unclear what will happen when the City is unsealed in eleven months and the Maker is set free, but long-time fans know full well the Maker’s potential for utter destruction. If he’s decided that Earth-6160 is no longer to his liking, it’s not beyond his ability to completely destroy it and start over again, “unmaking” the universe.

The Maker is an extremely dangerous villain. He started out as just another version of Reed Richards in the original Ultimate Universe of 1610, but due to the events in his life, he slowly grew darker and darker until he became a monster. When the multiverse was remade after the events of Secret Wars, the Maker’s mind was spread across it, inhabiting every universe with a single mind, leading to the Maker believing that Earth-616 was the center of the Multiverse and the key to everything. From there, he got into several confrontations before deciding on his “ultimate” goal.

Usually a brilliant genius, Mister Fantastic’s stretching powers can also produce a kind of body horror that pushes even other minds to their limit.

The Maker eventually decided to recreate the Ultimate Universe. But he wasn’t going to let superheroes rule it. Using the Immortus Engine, the Maker recreated the Ultimate Universe in his image. He removed several heroes from history, such as Spider-Man, Daredevil, and dozens more. But history doesn’t always like to be changed, and eventually, heroes like Spider-Man still came into existence. It’s possible that the emergence of superheroes will eventually push the Maker into becoming the Unmaker, someone who is dangerous enough to put time itself at risk.

The Maker Is Currently Marvel’s Biggest Villain

He Will Reshape the Universe to Fit Him

There is a lot that fans don’t know about this situation. The Maker is sealed away inside the City right now, and he won’t be out for another eleven months, but nobody knows who or what will exit the City. It’s possible that Howard Stark will emerge as the new villain, or even Kang the Conqueror. Even the Maker could emerge, more powerful and angry than before now that his universe has begun to slip away from him. The only thing clear about this situation is that there is a massive catastrophe being set up for the Ultimate Universe and perhaps the entire Marvel Multiverse – big enough to attract the Guardians of the Galaxy’s attention.

Reed Richards is one of the smartest men in any universe, and the Maker has continually used that staggering intelligence for brutal evil.

Reed Richards is one of the smartest men in any universe, and the Maker has continually used that staggering intelligence for brutal evil. He has sacrificed tons of people and spent years working towards the creation of the new Earth-6160. It’s unlikely that he’s going to just sit around and allow the heroes to ruin the systems of control that he has so carefully created to allow him to have his very own universe. While trying to erase the entire universe is a bit of an extreme reaction, it’s not out of character for someone like the Maker.

When Will the Unmaker Finally Appear?

When heroes turn evil, it’s usually one of the worst things that could happen in a superhero story. When Wolverine was brainwashed in the Enemy of the State storyline, he was only evil for a few days, yet he nearly succeeded in killing the President of the United States of America. Usually, an evil hero or evil doppelgänger is taken care of pretty quickly. But the Maker has managed to stick around in comics for twenty-four years. Even the death of his original universe couldn’t get rid of him.

Now it seems that after the Maker has been sealed away for over a year, he’s going to return furious. He might view this universe as a failed experiment and will simply attempt to do it again until he gets it right. With the Immortus Engine, he certainly has the power to do so. Reed Richards went through an incredibly dark transformation when he became the Maker, and it seems like it won’t be his final transformation. The next time the Ultimates come up against him, he might be more powerful than they can handle – as the Unmaker.
