Fan-favorite writer Gail Simone has left her mark on dozens of characters, but she’s eager to see what she can do with Godzilla. Simone revealed the King of the Monsters is still on her list of characters to write, and thankfully, Marvel Comics has a project that could make her dream come true.
Gail Simone recently participated in an ‘Ask Me Anything’ thread on Reddit’s /r/Fantasy subreddit. She was there to promote her new book, Red Sonja: Consumed, and answered several queries regarding one of her favorite fictional characters. However, the writer also answered a few questions about her non-Red Sonja work, including her projects with Marvel and DC.
Um. Godzilla, Spider-Man, the Marvel Family, the Shadow, the Avenger, Modesty Blaze, there’s a lot!
One user asked Simone which pre-existing characters she hasn’t worked with yet that she would most like to write. Simone gave a long list of characters, including Spider-Man, the Marvel Family, and the Shadow. But at the top of the list was Godzilla.

Marvel Comics Could Easily Make it Happen
Anyone slightly familiar with Gail Simone knows that she’s written dozens of iconic characters in her career. From her beloved run on Birds of Prey to Wonder Woman and even revitalizing several B and C-list villains in the lauded Secret Six series, Simone has brought her wit and charm to several iconic characters. But her magic touch isn’t limited to the DC Universe as she’s also written Deadpool, Red Sonja, and even several issues of Simpson’s Comics. She also became a major part of Marvel Comics’ X-Men 2024 relaunch, teaming up with David Marquez for Uncanny X-Men’s latest volume.
Simone’s wish to write Godzilla actually came at the most opportune time. Marvel Comics recently revealed it was launching a crossover event series with Toho in March 2025 titled Godzilla vs. Marvel, which would see the legendary kaiju and his biggest foes interacting with several Marvel All-Stars. Given her current working relationship with Marvel, it shouldn’t be too hard to get her on the series and allow her a chance to fulfill one of her writing dreams. Heck, why not allow Gail Simone to kill two birds with one stone and let her write Godzilla vs. Spider-Man?
Godzilla vs. Marvel is Perfect for a Writer Like Gail Simone
She’s Great With High Stakes and Humor
While fans have only gotten small peeks of Godzilla vs. Marvel, it seems like each issue will vary in tone a bit. Simone’s hypothetical issue could be a great mix of action, destruction, and humor (especially if she has the good fortune of writing Spider-Man). Simone’s a legend and would certainly do justice for such an ambitious and anticipated crossover. It could even prove she’s got the chops to do bigger and better Godzilla stories down the line. Even if Godzilla vs. Marvel doesn’t pan out in her favor, hopefully there’s a Godzilla story somewhere in Simone’s future.
