Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Venom War #5The Venom War is finally over and with it comes some major changes for the Lethal Protector. Faced against an army of Carnage-infused zombiotes, a surprise hero arrives just in time to give Venom and Eddie Brock the final power they need to stop the threat. Clad in shimmering gold, Venom’s latest evolution makes him the perfect opposite to Carnage, but with a lethal cost.
Venom War #5 – by Al Ewing and Iban Coello – is the final chapter of the symbiote spectacular that has been brewing since Eddie Brock became the King in Black. Alongside Eddie and Dylan Brock, Venom has been pushed against a wall.
Just when they felt they had won, Meridius claimed the Necrospear, transforming his zombiote army into one of maddened Carnages. As their impending loss closes in, Old Man Venom arrives with the final upgrade Venom needs to put Carnage and the zombiote army down in one explosive shot.
Eganrac: The Golden Anti-Carnage Superweapon From the Future
Venom War #5 – Written by Al Ewing; Art by Iban Coello; Color by Frank D’Armata; Lettering by VC’s Ariana Maher
On his own journey to right the wrongs of his timeline’s Venom War, Old Man Dylan Brock and the Venom of his time have been crafting a weapon to put down the King in Black for good. A single bullet, forged from mystical metals and blessed with Chthonic and Asgardian magic, blasts into his younger self’s back, transforming the modern Venom into a new type of weapon: the Anti-Carnage. Much like the Anti-Venom with other symbiotes, this augmented version of Venom serves only to rid the world of Carnage.
Marvel Has a New Event Brewing, and It’s All About the Venom-Verse
Another symbiote event is on its way from Marvel Comics, but it will include a head-to-head conflict with the Spider-Verse starting May 2025.
Nothing that the mad godling created makes a difference against the Anti-Carnage. All-Blood, the accumulation of Carnage’s murderous will and the commanding totem of the zombiote army, immediately bends to Venom’s new power. His golden Anti-Carnage properties consume All-Blood, disintegrating every last instance of Carnage’s influence. However, the mythical bullet, the Eganrac, is more than just antibodies to the disease that is Carnage; rather, it is a singular answer. As Venom notes, when Carnage meets Anti-Carnage, the two destroy themselves.

The Anti-Carnage Will Be Needed When the King in Crimson Arrives
The Eganrac is effective, not just purging Carnage’s influence from the zombiotes but also nearly killing the symbiote as well. Since Carnage’s long ascension toward godhood, the Anti-Carnage is the only weapon that has been able to truly bring the titan down. Without a host, the symbiotic demon crawled himself through space and time, destroying Meridius’s Garden of Time and claiming the time-displaced Eddie’s power as his own. As Carnage is left dying, for the first time in a very long time, Venom too collapses under the Eganrac.
His upcoming golden appearance suggests that some of his Anti-Carnage powers may remain.
With the All-New Venom series debuting in early December, this won’t be the last time readers see Venom. Truthfully, his upcoming golden appearance suggests that some of his Anti-Carnage powers may remain. Hopefully, for whoever Venom’s next host is, this theory is true, as the threat of a King in Crimson still lingers on the horizon. Wherever Venom’s next journey takes him, be assured that the need for an Anti-Carnage still remains.
Venom War #5 is available now from Marvel Comics
