Putting a new twist on the iconic Spider-Man and Deadpool friendship and team-up, Marvel Comics is uniting Miles Morales with the Merc with a Mouth’s daughter as she takes on her dad’s superhero mantle. Peter Parker’s relationship with Wade Wilson has varied over the years, with the super-powered pair ranging from rivals to friends to reluctant frenemies. Now, different characters under the masks and superhero identities replicate the duo’s dynamic.

Miles Morales: Spider-Man #25’s backup story, “Family Bitniz”– written by Cody Ziglar with art by Federico Sabbatini – officially introduces Ellie Camacho’s new version of Deadpool to Spider-Man, when Miles Morales crashes her bust on a random money launderer. A banter-filled battle ensues, as Spider-Man and Deadpool’s legacy characters are initially established as adversaries.

Although the more experienced Spider-Man has a bit of an upper hand in their first fight, the fangirling Deadpool holds her own before escaping with an assist from Taskmaster. The next generation of the pairing set up their own take on the Marvel friendship.

Battling and bickering, Miles and Ellie have a somewhat friendly fight over how to handle the money launderer that is the next mark for Deadpool and Daughters, LLC. Ellie has taken on the mantle of Deadpool since her father’s death, going into the field with training from sometimes villain and sometimes anti-hero, Taskmaster. Missing from the action is Deadpool’s other daughter figure, the giant symbiote creature Princess, who Ellie also sees as a sister. After some playful bilingual banter in English and Spanish, Ellie’s mentor breaks up the first next-gen Spider-Man and Deadpool fight before Miles can take the win.

Though Wade Wilson’s Deadpool had a previous adventure related to Peter Parker’s story in the 90s, their first meeting occurred in Cable & Deadpool #24. Reflecting the new duo’s origin in the Family Bitniz backup, Spider-Man first fights Deadpool during a reckless mercenary job before the wall-crawler lets him go. Though their initial interaction was a sticky situation, a complex friendship was born.

Miles Morales: Spider-Man and Deadpool’s current writer Cody Ziglar may be masterminding the all-new take on the Spider-Man and Deadpool pairing, with Family Bitniz just the first glimpse at what’s to come for the two characters. Reporting to Misty Knight at the end of the story, Miles teases that he doesn’t think he’s seen the last of the new Deadpool. With the same writer behind both characters in their current eras, it’s both inevitable and exciting for the Spider-Man and Deadpool dynamic to be recreated by their younger legacy characters.

Though the new duo’s introduction to each other is briefly done in the backup story, Marvel could really expand on this fresh pairing as the next step in the overall history of Spider-Man and Deadpool. With further development and fleshing out their dynamic, Miles and Ellie may establish a strong rapport that could make them strong allies or adversaries as their relationship is explored in future comic events and storylines.
