The Great Lakes Avengers, or G.L.A., are another version of the Avengers that were formed during the time when the Avengers were disassembled. This was more of a parody team of the Avengers and wasn’t taken too seriously.

The first issue of this four-issue miniseries is the second appearance of Squirrel Girl in the comics. She is recruited to the G.L.A., which consists of Mr. Immortal, Dinah Soar, Big Bertha, Flatman, Doorman, and Grasshopper. If you would like to see where it all started, then check out Marvel Super-Heroes #8. This issue from 1992 is the first appearance of Squirrel Girl and should be on the radar for any collector, especially if you want to collect Squirrel Girl comics.

This comic showcased fill-in or backup stories for other stories or Annuals, but this helped bring in a brand-new character at the time, which would be Squirrel Girl. In the story, Iron Man is testing a new invention when he meets Squirrel Girl after she has an encounter with Doctor Doom. Later in the story, she ends up defeating Doctor Doom and earning praise from Iron Man.
