Marvel Comics and DC Comics are the undisputed leaders of the American comic book industry. Commonly known as “the Big Two,” the relationship between the publishers has generally been one of friendly rivals. Despite being competitors, DC & Marvel frequently collaborated on crossover events, teaming up their most popular characters. It seems this tradition is being revived in 2025.

The new crossovers were announced at ComicsPro 2025 at a panel featuring the editors-in-chief of both companies. Marvel Comics’ C.B. Cebulski asked the attendees, “Another crossover, a modern crossover, are you up for it?” When the crowd cheered the tease, Cebulski turned to DC Comics’ Marie Javins and said, “I guess we have no choice but to do this.” When Javins asked if they could get this done in 2025, Cebulski said they could “put together some creators and some character ideas.”

Beyond the announcement, little has been said about the upcoming crossovers. No creative teams or characters have been named. Indeed, no titles have been announced beyond DC/Marvel and Marvel/DC. This suggests a massive crossover event akin to 2003’s JLA/Avengers, presuming these are actual titles and not placeholders.

The comic crossover announcement fueled considerable speculation among comic readers over the weekend. However, it also renewed discussions regarding a crossover movie involving both franchises. While a considerable undertaking on the legal level, the biggest obstacle has always been the rivalry between the publishers. With the head editors now willing to consider crossovers again, that hurdle has been lifted.

It should be noted that both heads of Marvel Studios and DC Studios are open to a cinematic crossover. In an interview with Collider, Kevin Feige admitted to considering the possibility. However, he also confirmed that there had been no serious movement in that direction, while adding, “We’ve been talking too long for me to go, ‘Never! We’d never be able to do that.’”

Likewise, James Gunn confirmed (in an interview with Empire) that there had been discussions regarding a crossover movie, but they were “very light and fun.” Gunn warned that such a movie would be years away, given the need to get the new DCU established. However, Gunn also allowed that such a crossover was “more likely now that I’m in charge.”
