Ororo Munroe, aka Storm, is arguably one of the most iconic members of Marvel’s X-Men. She was first introduced in 1975, alongside several other characters, for Giant-Size X-Men. Since then, she’s been a hero and a heartbreaker, making a lasting impression on readers everywhere. However, Storm has been around long enough for some details of her story to get forgotten by all but her most die-hard fans.

Storm is an essential member of the X-Men team. She’s a born leader with a compassionate heart. As such, she’s played an important role in many hero’s journeys, including those of Kitty Pryde and Gambit. Her journey is far from over, but hopefully, more details of her story won’t be forgotten.

Storm First Met Xavier When She Was a Child

Young Storm Attempted to Pick Professor X’s Pockets

It’s natural to assume that most X-Men didn’t meet until the team was founded. However, a few instances prove this assumption false. During the events of Uncanny X-Men #117, it’s revealed that a young Ororo Munroe crossed paths with Charles Xavier, and interestingly, the interaction didn’t occur in a way that most fans could have predicted.

When Ororo was very little, she was a thief living in Cairo. She came across Xavier here, as he admittedly looked like a good mark to the child. She had no way of knowing that he was a powerful telepath, after all. While Charles immediately recognized Ororo’s potential, he knew that speaking of it would merely spook her. His plans didn’t matter, as another mutant’s attack allowed Ororo to slip away.

One such example is when Storm takes charge of a mutant gang called the Morlocks. Admittedly, Storm didn’t actually want the title of leader, but she fought for it regardless, as it was the only way to bring peace to the situation.

Likewise, Storm has taken it upon herself to lead the primary X-Men team, which she ran for several years. She would later form her own X-Men team in X-Treme X-Men. Another prime example of Storm’s need to care and guide would be the squad she began at Xavier’s, aka Storm’s Student Squad.

Gambit has been with the X-Men for so long that it’s easy to forget he wasn’t a founding member. However, fans have Storm to thank for Gambit’s presence on the team. She and Gamit crossed paths following her battle with the Shadow King. She was lucky enough to be saved by Gambit, and it’s safe to say she returned that favor tenfold.

Storm didn’t immediately bring Gambit to the X-Men, as she first had to regain her memories. During this intermission, the two became fast friends, forming a strong bond of trust. Naturally, when Storm regained her memories, she didn’t hesitate to lead Gambit to the X-Men, going so far as to vouch for the thief, even when everyone else questioned his loyalty.

As mentioned earlier, Storm is naturally caring and has gone out of her way to help take care of new X-Men recruits and students. Unfortunately, in at least one instance, this made her the target of a very specific attack. It all started when Kitty Pryde’s parents opted to transfer the young student from Xavier’s School to the Massachusetts Academy.

For those unaware, the Massachusetts Academy was Emma Frost’s rendition of a mutant school, and she was very eager to get her hands on young Kitty Pryde. When Storm escorts the young student to the campus, Emma strikes and uses her psychic abilities to swap bodies with Storm as a means of manipulating Kitty Pryde. Storm has never forgiven her fellow mutant for his actions.

Storm Is the Goddess of Thunder

She May Not Be Thor, but Storm Still Holds the Title of Goddess of Thunder

Storm is no Thor, but she is the Goddess of Thunder. She already deserved this title for her power over the weather, but another event helped solidify things. It all started thanks to one of Loki’s many schemes. He forged his own version of Mjolnir, which he appropriately dubbed Stormcaster, and when Storm picked up the hammer, she became the Goddess of Thunder.

Of course, it didn’t take long for Storm to realize Loki was manipulating her. This was far from Storm’s only dance as the Goddess of Thunder. She would later regain the title and hammer, using it in a battle against Thor in X-Men: To Serve and Protect #3. In a third instance, one of Storm’s family members prayed for the return of her divinity, and with it once again came Stormcaster.
