As Season 2 of Marvel Rivalstakes players to Krakoa for a battle between mutants and Ultron’s robotic army, where could future seasons travel to? Rivals has been a huge success since its launch, with no shortage of reasons why. Though the story is an underappreciated part of the game, it continues to introduce new characters to the beloved roster of heroes and villains.
Season 2 is set to introduce the Vanguard Emma Frost and the Krakoa map to start. Meanwhile, the halfway point will introduce Ultron, and early leaks show a second map is possible. This all comes with hordes of new characters and team-up changes that will refresh gameplay. Part of Season 2’s announcement was also the update that, starting in Season 3, seasons will be shortened to two months, and each month will bring a new hero.

Mercenary Recruitment
Bringing In The Hired Guns
Marvel is filled with hired guns who are not afraid to work for either side, which is perfect for a scenario where three sides are competing. Maps would be a trickier angle for this theme, as there is no standout option, but Marvel has numerous locations that would make for exciting maps. Of the characters that could be introduced in a season like this, the easy options are Deadpool and Hit Monkey, two characters that have already been leaked.
These are four of the most recognizable mercenaries of the franchise, but still out of the “mainline loop.”
However, there are a handful of other mercenaries that could fit, including Domino, Taskmaster, Silver Sable, and Cable. These are four of the most recognizable mercenaries of the franchise, but still out of the “mainline loop.” Each of them would also have interesting powers that could make for fun kits, whether that is Taskmaster’s ability to mimic his opponents or Domino’s ability to luck out of any situation.

Thunderbolts
Anti-Heroes Rise To The Call
The Thunderbolts would be a prime example of how Rivals could blend its content drops with the status of the MCU. All the potential is there for costumes, maps, and characters to capitalize on the success of the game and movie. Though it wouldn’t be at the same time as the movie, since it seems the members will be moving on to the next Avengers movies, it still has the potential to link up and work as a double advertisement.
Character-wise, the obvious additions would be from the MCU cast, like Red Guardian, U.S. Agent, Sentry, and others. However, the comics also introduce numerous other villains/anti-heroes that could fit to standout more. These include Baron Zemo, Red Hulk, Elektra, Abombination, and more. Overall, it would be hard to pick just two of the many members, but since many of them have had other appearances, picking from the MCU cast may be the best option.

Kingpin & Daredevil
Exploring New York’s Darker Side
Another opportunity to capitalize off the MCU, and with the recent leaks, would be a season based around Kingpin and Daredevil. The story would be tricky for this season as it may be on a smaller scale, but it would be the perfect opportunity to capitalize on these resurgent characters. Daredevil has had his passive ability leaked, which shows that the development team is at least working on him. If this is true, he would perfectly fit into the talented Duelist role.
Kingpin would be an interesting Vanguard, as his kit would need to be made unique to stand out.
If Kingpin was too hard to make or saved for a different plan, there are some other characters to use. The best options would be other “street-level” threats around New York, like Tombstone or Hammerhead, but these may not be as appealing as Kingpin.
7
Blade & The Midnight Suns
The Supernatural Superheroes
Since Blade did not release in Season 2, a great time for him to reappear would be with the introduction of the Midnight Suns. These supernatural heroes have plenty of enemies that would make a compelling storyline, and since some of their members are already in-game, cosmetics would be easy. The hardest part of this season would be picking only one of the talented roster to join Rivals.

Marvel Rivals: Every Season 2 Battle Pass Reward & How to Get Them
The Season 2 Battle Pass for Marvel Rivals includes many new cosmetics you can earn, including new skins, emotes, nameplates, and valuable currency.
Some of the best cases to join include Ghost Rider, Man-Thing, Werewolf by Night, Nico Minoru, and The Hood. The Hood has already been leaked, so he would be the most likely candidate, but the rest are appealing options. Nico would be a good addition to the Strategist role, Man-Thing could be another crowd-control heavy tank like Groot, while Ghost Rider and Werewolf by Night add new playstyles to Duelist.
6
Spider-Verse
The Most Chaotic Multiversal Adventure
As one of the most successful stories for Marvel, expanding the Spider-Verse of Rivals would be brilliant. The story could expand on what the Tokyo maps lay out or take a new route with more inspiration from the comics/movies. This is another theme that it would be hard to pick just two characters, given the numerous Spider heroes to choose from.
The obvious first choice would be Miles Morales, a character who has quickly become as popular as the original Spider-Man. After Miles, the options become more of what the developers think could work best. Gwen Stacy would be the next popular, but her abilities aren’t too different from regular Spider-Man. Spider-Man 2099 could work as a more futuristic blend of the usual, but there are still plenty of fun options.
5
Thanos & The Guardians Of The Galaxy
An Avenger-Level Crisis
Thanos would arguably be one of the most appealing additions to the roster, both from gameplay and story perspectives. A seasonal theme about him working with one of the Dooms would have large stakes. His kit, especially with the Infinity Stones, would make him a versatile Vanguard who can’t be ignored. Balance would be a key factor in Thanos, but one that the development team has proven to handle well through the first few seasons.
This season would also be the perfect opportunity to add the missing Guardians of the Galaxy. Drax or Gamora would be fun additions, though both would likely be Duelists. Given that Gamora has a stronger connection to the Mad Titan, with a bit more style than Drax, she would fit best. While it would be a long shot, Nova would also be an intriguing option.
4
The Sinister Six
Spider-Man’s Greatest Villains Join The Fray
The Sinister Six are one of the most recognizable villain groups, and their combined strength would be an asset for either Doom. This is an idea that would work best in a season the same size as Season 1, which, understandably, would be a lot of work. Though the Sinister Six has had numerous members, keeping it to the most frequent members would be best.
Octavius stands to be a menacing Vanguard whose arms could implement new mechanics.
In this regard, Doc Ock and either Electro or Vulture would be the best. Octavius stands to be a menacing Vanguard whose arms could implement new mechanics. Electro and Vulture could be new aerial Duelists, adding more levels of verticality. If one of these two were left out, then Sandman as Vanguard or Scorpion as an assassin Duelist to join Rivals‘strongest dive teams would be the next best option.
3
Captain Marvel & The Skrulls
A Galaxy Full Of Enemies
With Captain Marvel already leaked for the game, a fitting theme to introduce her would be the Skrulls. She is an interesting option as she fits well as either a Vanguard or a Duelist. Whichever role she is placed in, her Binary Form should be a key part of her kit, either as her ultimate or something she builds up into, similarly to Mr. Fantastic’s Inflated State.
For the Skrulls, the best option would be to create a Super Skrull. This is hard to predict besides the idea, as there have been numerous Super Skrulls who have all had varying powers. Regardless, a Super Skrull would be an extremely versatile addition to the roster that could be a jack-of-all-trades character.
2
Hydra Takeover
Rewriting History
Hydra would be one of the best fits for a seasonal storyline. The lore is already established, and numerous cosmetics could come from it. The most obvious of which would be a Captain Hydra costume. Roster additions would be more limited with this theme, depending on the frame of what the developers consider Hydra.

Marvel Rivals Season 2: All Character & System Changes
Season 2 is bringing numerous changes to Marvel Rivals, which will impact both the short-term and long-term success of the rising hero shooter.
The easiest characters to add would be Baron Zemo, Red Skull, or Crossbones. However, Crossbones could run into the issue of being too similar to Punisher, while the other two would need distinct creativity to stand out. This is one issue Rivals may have going forward with its new content plan, where characters without powers would need some unique skills, like Hawkeye, to fit.
1
Knull & The Symbiotes
Joining The Symbiote War
Of all the ideas to come up with, this one seems more like a when rather than an if. The Klyntar map and in-game dialogue already showcase that Knull is looking for a chance to escape, while Venom and others are trying to avoid that. Thus, lore-wise, it already makes sense for one of the Dooms to look to free the Symbiote King in exchange for his strength.
Knull would be an obvious roster addition, with the flexibility to slot in as a Vanguard or Duelist. The other spot could go to one of the more recognizable Symbiotes, the most likely options being Carnage or Anti-Venom. Given the distinct differences in the abilities of these two, Carnage would work best as a brawl-focused Duelist, whereas Anti-Venom could make for a new twist on the Strategist role.
Rivals will have no shortage of ideas that could be used, and it has already shown the developers aren’t afraid to blur the lines. While these ten fit more common Marvel lore, the previous two seasons were combinations of entities that usually don’t interact. Still, based on what is popular and has been teased in-game, these are ten perfect seasonal themes that Marvel Rivals should do.
