The Amazing Spider-Man is a genius inventor, as are some of his greatest villains. In Marvel’s bustling New York City, Masterminds with delusions of grandeur turn to crime and develop incredible devices and powerful weapons. Some build their own gear, and others get it from third parties, but they all end up gunning for Spider-Man.
The more Spidey thwarts his brainier enemies, the more they devote themselves to honing their crafts. Some started big, while others started with less powerful versions of their signature weapons and later received incredible upgrades, growing in power to match their infamy. Spider-Man comics are surprisingly filled with all manner of powerful weapons.

The Big Wheel Is Silly And Unstoppable
First appeared in Marv Wolfman and Ross Andru’s Amazing Spider-Man #183
Most of Spider-Man’s greatest foes use their mastery of finance or technology to become animal-themed super crooks, but not Jackson Weele. After a series of white-collar crimes led him to question his will to live, Jackson realized his only desire was to have a big, crazy monowheel machine with too many guns on it.
The Big Wheel is among the most aptly named devices ever. It consists of one ridiculous wheel, which also houses a gyroscopic cockpit. It’s equipped with heavy artillery but no floatation devices, so driving this thing through Manhattan can only go so far before things get risky. Weele wasn’t great at controlling the unwieldy wheel, but his machine lived on after he crashed it into the Hudson.

Coldheart’s Cryonic Swords Are Unexplored
First appeared in Spider-Man #49 by Howard Mackie and Tom Lyle
Coldheart is a lesser-known Spider-Man villain whose unspecified government training gave her mastery of swords. She stole battle armor and two cryonic swords to attack Spider-Man, furious over her son’s apparent death. In her crusade against costumed super-personalities, she became what she swore to destroy.
Her swords may look magical, but they’re actual swords. They emit a cryokinetic field with paralytic properties. When Spider-Man brushed the sword with his hand in their first battle, he described it as feeling incredibly cold, and he was completely immobilized with the blade at his neck. Coldheart can seemingly enable and disable the field of petrifying cold at will, but much is unknown about the deadly blades.

Shocker’s Vibro-Gauntlets Punch Hard
First appeared in Amazing Spider-Man #46 by John Romita Sr. and Stan Lee
Herman Schultz built the gauntlets that made him the Shocker while he was in prison. Not wanting to encroach on Electro’s space, the shocking power of Schultz’s gauntlets comes from intense vibrations and compressed air rather than electricity. Essentially, Shocker’s gear allows him to punch people really hard and from very far away.

The Infinity Gauntlet is one of the most powerful Marvel weapons, but it still can be destroyed.
He’s occasionally upgraded the gauntlets to manipulate his shockwaves, but the incredible, near-seismic power of the blasts is difficult to control or maintain without extraneous features. The concussive force of his gear necessitates his trademark yellow costume, which keeps him safe and insulated from his enhanced blows.

Scorpion’s Suit Is Lethal
First appeared in Amazing Spider-Man #20 by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko
Mac Gargan is a former private investigator who became a supervillain thanks to experimental procedures and technology aimed at unmasking Spider-Man. His spliced Scorpion DNA gives him powers similar to Spidey, but homicidal madness is an unfortunate side effect. Rather than rely solely on his own arachnid abilities, Scorpion wears a battle suit to give himself an edge.
The suit comes equipped with an enormous mechanical tail, which is wired directly into Gargan’s musculature. The appendage can move over ninety miles per hour and support more than Gargan’s weight, making it an incredible weapon and a means of locomotion. The venomous tip came later and varies between acid or hallucinogenic toxins that can kill.

Ringer’s Rings Are Deceptively Deadly
First appeared in Defenders #51 by David Kraft and Keith Giffen
The Ringer was a street-level goon with highly dangerous toys. As his name implies, he battled Spider-Man in a post-comics code world with weaponized rings. It sounds like a silly concept for a villain until one sees the Ringer in action. Many of his tools would be horrific if used against another person, and Spider-Man was lucky he didn’t have crueler intentions.
Constricting rings sound like a slow and painful death. Explosive rings are eerily dark when placed around a person’s waste, but anyone with bombs that are easy to transport and throw is pretty dangerous. Davis died and returned as a cyborg, but a new Ringer came after him and continued to give superheroes a problem with his terrifying rings.

The Carrion Virus Was Weaponized
First appeared in Spectacular Spider-Man #149
The Carrion Virus didn’t start as a weapon, but how it has been weaponized since its introduction preceding Spider-Man’s close saga is frightening. Created by assistants of the High Evolutionary to help the bestial New Men look more human, its effects on humans are disturbing.

Doc Ock Became A Weapon
First appeared in Amazing Spider-Man #3
Otto Octavius created his infamous arms for the noble pursuit of scientific inquiry, but radioactive accidents and wiring in his brain turned him into a living weapon. He upgrades them when he can, and with his adamantium tentacles, he is one of the most dangerous villains in Spidey’s rogues gallery. Even in their base form, Doctor Octopus’s tentacles are incredibly powerful and dangerous.
They can lift more than twenty tons and function independently, though Octavius can also control them telepathically. He has some degree of physical touch and sensation through the cold metal appendages, and at over twenty feet long, they make him a serious threat. He can climb walls, create mighty winds, and do serious damage with the horrible pincers on the ends of each arm.

Goblin Gadgets Are Powerful And Thematic
First appeared in Amazing Spider-Man #17 by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko
The Green Goblin started with a flying broomstick, but he soon realized that it didn’t have enough of an edge. His Goblin Glider fixed that. While his gear isn’t particularly fantastical, throwing bombs at ninety miles per hour in crowded city areas sure makes his weapons seem powerful.
Some readers would say Osborn’s greatest weapon is his mind, but the Goblin’s pumpkin bombs are incredibly potent. They can demolish whole buildings or be modified to interfere with Spidey’s stick-em powers. All variations of the Goblin rigidly adhere to their aesthetic.

The Sin-Eater’s Sin Gun Absorbs Powers
Magically reappeared in Amazing Spider-Man #47 by Nick Spencer, Marcelo Ferreira, and Roberto Poggi
Stanley Carter was a simple maniac with a shotgun until he died and went to Hell. Exposed to cult practices at a young age, he was mutated by S.H.I.E.L.D. and fired before becoming a detective for the NYPD and, eventually, a shotgun-toting serial killer. When he died and came back due to demonic influence, his gun had a cool new power.
