Summary
With the wealth of characters already introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the franchise has actually set up a number of spin-offs for the future. As the timeline of movies in the MCU continues to grow, so too does the franchise’s list of characters and stories. The cinematic universe has become known for its teases for future movies and shows, forever laying the seeds of the franchise’s next stories and building upon the foundations laid by previous projects. As a result, there are numerous stories and characters ready to appear, with many existing heroes set to play a larger role in the franchise’s future.
A number of upcoming Marvel movies are set to introduce new characters into the MCU, setting up many new stories in the process. However, many of the logical narrative developments for the franchise are already set up, with the MCU having paved the way for a number of spin-offs in previous movies and TV shows. Whether the characters in question have been introduced and could play a role in a specific story arc or whether the groundwork has been laid for an entirely new story, here are 10 MCU spin-offs that the franchise has already set up.

10 Gamora & The Ravagers
Set up by: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023)
After Gamora’s death in Avengers: Infinity War, an alternate version of the character returned, albeit without her memories of her fellow Guardians. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 saw Gamora traveling with a group of Ravagers, and after helping to thwart the High Evolutionary, she returned to her new space-faring friends. This has set up a potential spin-off following Thanos’ adopted daughter and her travels with the team of roguish space nomads, offering an opportunity to better examine some of the MCU’s most interesting unexplored characters.
9 Vision Quest
Set up by: WandaVision (2021)
Alongside Wanda’s villain turn in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, one of the biggest stories set up by the ending of WandaVision is an adaptation of the Vision Quest arc. The series introduced White Vision, the hero’s reanimated body that lacks his memories and humanity. After meeting Wanda’s magical manifestation of his former self, he leaves to process his rediscovered memories. Though Vision Quest has been announced for the MCU, more concrete details on the project have yet to be confirmed, despite the spin-off being perfectly set up.
8 A Miles Morales Spider-Man Story
Set up by: Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)
The character of Miles Morales has become one of Marvel’s most popular young heroes in recent years, but he has yet to make his MCU debut. However, his eventual inclusion was set up back in Spider-Man’s first MCU solo movie, Spider-Man: Homecoming, where a brief encounter with petty criminal Aaron Davis confirmed the existence of his young nephew in the franchise. As Davis is destined to become the Prowler and his as-yet-unseen nephew will grow up to become Spider-Man, a Miles Morales spin-off has already been perfectly set up within the franchise.
7 An America Chavez Movie/Series
Set up by: Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
Of all the characters introduced since Avengers: Endgame, few have powers with the same narrative potential as America Chavez. The young Multiverse-hopping hero made her debut as part of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness‘s cast, helping the MCU’s resident sorcerer unlock the secrets of the Multiverse on the big screen. As Phases 4 through 6 are known as the Multiverse Saga, an America Chavez spin-off would be an ideal project, especially considering the path to a solo story for the character has already been established.
6 Ned Leeds & Doctor Strange
Set up by: Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
Though it may seem an unlikely spin-off, the MCU has actually set up a potential story linking Peter Parker’s best friend to the franchise’s former Sorcerer Supreme. Ned Leeds has played a supporting role in all three MCU Spider-Man movies, acting as a sidekick to Tom Holland’s iteration of Marvel’s resident wall-crawler. Spider-Man: No Way Home revealed Ned’s latent magical abilities, hinting that his future in the franchise may lie alongside another hero entirely. Whether the potential spin-off will ever come to fruition isn’t clear, but the MCU has certainly set it up as a possible narrative avenue to explore.
5 Sinister Six
Set up by: Morbius (2022)
Though Sony’s Spider-Man Universe was initially separate from the MCU, the two franchises have become entangled thanks to the MCU’s Multiversal exploration. The MCU’s Vulture was confirmed to have crossed over into the Sonyverse in Morbius‘s post-credits scene, firmly establishing a spin-off by teasing a Sinister Six movie. The universe already contains Venom, Morbius, and Vulture, with the likes of Kraven the Hunter and Madame Web already confirmed for upcoming movies, but the possible villain team-up has already been set up as an MCU spin-off.
4 Young Avengers
Set up by: WandaVision (2021), Hawkeye (2021), Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
Since the events of Avengers: Endgame, the MCU has been gradually introducing all the required characters for a Young Avengers spin-off. WandaVision introduced Wiccan and Speed, Hawkeye saw Kate Bishop’s debut, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness introduced America Chavez. Hulkling is also set to appear in Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, and Kang the Conqueror’s involvement in the franchise comes with the potential introduction of Iron Lad, another member of the team. With so many characters already introduced, a Young Avengers spin-off has already been set up for the franchise.
3 Black Knight
Set up by: Eternals (2021)
Alongside the titular heroes, Eternals introduced a handful of other heroes to the MCU. One of these was Dane Whitman, Sersi’s human love interest, who was seen in the film’s post-credits scene embracing his destiny as the Black Knight. Whitman’s transformation into Black Knight perfectly sets up his own spin-off, even if his story is directly linked to Eternals 2. The scene teased a connection to another upcoming MCU hero, as Blade’s voice was also heard, meaning that the Black Knight could even make his next appearance in the vampire hunter’s upcoming movie.
2 Infinity Watch
Set up by: Eternals (2021), Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023)
Two other characters introduced in Eternals‘ post-credits scenes were Starfox and Pip the Troll. With Adam Warlock later debuting in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3., the MCU now has three major players required to introduce the Infinity Watch. The team most commonly comprises Adam Warlock, Doctor Strange, Pip the Troll, Gamora, Captain Marvel, and others, all of which now exist in the MCU. By introducing the final few major players involved in establishing the Infinity Watch, a spin-off concerning the team has been perfectly set up for the MCU, even if the franchise opts not to explore the story.
1 The MCU’s X-Men
Set up by: Ms Marvel (2022), Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022)
One of the MCU spin-offs that has been most subtly set up is that of the franchise’s own X-Men, with Marvel’s resident team of mutant heroes proving elusive within the cinematic universe. However, the groundwork has been specifically laid for their formal introduction, with Ms. Marvel revealing that the titular character’s powers actually stem from the X-gene. One of Marvel’s most important mutant characters has also made an appearance, with Namor making his debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. With the foundations thoroughly established for the X-Men to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s yet another spin-off that the franchise has perfectly set up.
