Marvel villains range from silly mad scientists to supernatural aberrations. Godzilla used to be one of the magnificent monsters of Earth-616 until distribution rights changed, and he presumably went underground.
Now, with new fights on the horizon, Marvel’s heroes and villains will have to challenge the King of Monsters. With teams of top writers and artists on board for 2025’s Godzilla vs. one-shots, fans are invited to consider which Marvel villains could challenge the King of Monsters.

Miscellaneous Monsters Made The Multiverse
Marvel Comics are built on the backs of mythic monsters. Thor’s Asgard brought frost giants and the Fenris wolf, and other ancient monsters like the Hydra and Leviathan are as common as the random pulp monsters of the Golden Age. A horde of monsters, including Xemnu, Goom, Zzutak, Googam, Gomdulla, and other relics of old monster stories, would be a challenge for the supposed King of Monsters.
Groot’s ancestors from Planet X were a little smaller than modern depictions of Godzilla, but they could presumably increase their size just like him. Mighty and monstrous Marvels like Mangog and the Space Beast, Hypno Beast, Bi-Beast, and more bring titanic and demonic threats into the world of superheroes and villains. Many combinations of classic monsters, be they mythic or Marvel originals, could challenge Godzilla, but only a few could pose a real threat on their own.

Brood Swarms Act As One
The Brood is a swarming hive mind that scours the universe in search of populations to dominate and assimilate. Godzilla’s will is supernaturally strong, and while the Brood probably couldn’t overtake him entirely, their coordinated force would pose a physical challenge to Godzilla if nothing else.
In Godzilla in Hell, the King of Monsters is completely consumed by a horde of demons, only to reconstitute himself from the writhing swarm. If something similar happened with the Brood, the people of Earth would be the first in a string of casualties across the multiverse as the monsters merged, growing stronger and scarier.

Carnage Loves Taking Scary Hosts
Carnage is a nasty alien parasite at best and a murderous sentient contagion at worst. He’s an offshoot of the Venom symbiote who bonded to Cletus Cassidy, a deeply disturbed serial killer with a twisted understanding of love. They cause carnage and mayhem wherever they go, hence their name, and they’re always looking for their next big move. Taking over Godzilla would turn a lot of heads.

Venom: 10 Most Obscure Symbiote Characters, Ranked
Venom is Marvel’s most popular symbiote, but there have been countless variants and other symbiotes that are just as lethal as the Lethal Protector.
Carnage, the Red King, loves to put on a show. He prefers as much violence and gore as possible in his grand displays, taking over whole towns and making people hurt each other, so becoming a giant monster to terrorize whole cities would be a dream come true. Godzilla’s sheer force of will might be enough to break Carnage’s control, but the evil symbiote would put up a good fight and be a tough challenge for the King of Monsters.
7
Gorr Kills Gods
Gorr the God Butcher was the holder of the Necrosword and its symbiont component, All-Black. He went on a rampage across the universe, murdering deities in a self-righteous quest for blood, and he could probably make short work of the King of Monsters. Godzilla is powerful, and some versions come near to divinity, but that doesn’t stop Gorr.
With blinding speed and command over shadows, Gorr was a match for war deities and nature gods across the cosmos. Even the gargantuan Godzilla Earth would have to locate and strike Gorr to hurt him, but that’s much easier said than done. All-Black gets stronger with each god that it kills, so even if Gorr couldn’t kill the most powerful version of Godzilla the first time, he could likely slaughter a few lesser deities and come back strong enough to finish the job.

Mole Man Has His Own Monsters
Harvey Elder is easy to underestimate. His small frame and peculiar appearance always made him stand out, driving him away from his home and to a grand adventure wherein he discovered secrets at the center of the Earth. He bonded with the Moloids, so maybe he could have also bonded with the King of Monsters.
If Godzilla didn’t befriend Harvey, the Mole Man would challenge him with his armies of other subterranean creatures. The moloids aren’t his only allies, and the many massive monsters at his beck and call would slow the giant lizard down. Their hard exteriors and specialized tunneling appendages make them fierce combatants against the heroes of the Marvel Universe, so they’d at least slow Godzilla down.
5
Red Hulk Hates Monsters
General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross hates monsters almost as much as he hates losing. He dedicated his life to eradicating the Hulk until he eventually became one himself, and as the Red Hulk he led the Thunderbolts on numerous undercover missions to stop various threats. In Gerry Duggan and Giuseppe Camuncoli’s Godzilla vs. Hulk, he willlead his team in trying to capture the King of Monsters.

Red Hulk’s 10 Strongest Feats, Ranked
Red Hulk recently displayed his incredible strength in the MCU, though these overpowered comic feats show why he’s one of Marvel’s strongest heroes.
Hulk’s strength is more than comparable to King Kong’s, and his smaller stature gives him much better mobility. With a team under his command, he could easily track down and challenge Godzilla. The other Red Hulk was strong enough to throw goliaths like American Kaiju around, but Ross’s unique blend of Hulk chemicals gave him the power to absorb radiation, though he goes back and forth on being able to use that ability. If he could absorb Godzilla’s atomic breath, there’s nothing the beast could do to overcome Ross’s Hulk.

Fin Fang Foom Is Marvel’s Sleeping Dragon
Fin Fang Foom is a beast of legend. While he resembles a mythical dragon, he’s a shapeshifting alien from the planet Kakaranthara. He slept beneath the earth for centuries until he broke free to become a problem for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, so he’d likely see Godzilla as an equal and challenge his reign.
Hulk once punched the magical alien dragon to the Moon, and Iron Man needed the Mandarin’s help to destroy Foom’s body. Godzilla’s atomic breath would hurt the dragon badly, but his healing factor is only limited by his willpower, which he has honed in all his time waiting. He can also possess other life forms from beyond the dead, evoking some of Godzilla’s more mystical foes and ensuring the fight would never truly end.
3
The Void Is Marvel’s Scariest Monster
The Sentry is one of Marvel’s answers to Superman, but he harbors a dark secret. The King of Monsters met and defeated the Man of Steel in single combat, but only because Superman held back to minimize property damage. That’s not a problem for Sentry for two reasons. First, he’s out of his mind and has a hard time keeping track of that many variables. Secondly, he has an evil Kaiju of his own that won’t give him much choice.
The Void is more like a cosmic entity than a true monster, and its destructive powers know no bounds. Godzilla would become a force representing the wild fury and power of life itself if faced with such a dark opponent, but it would be a hard battle. Many innocent people would lose their homes or lives in the fallout of such a nuclear conflict, and it could easily end with both combatants seemingly dead and left to reform and rematch later.
2
Doom and Godzilla Have Much In Common
Victor Von Doom would only challenge Godzilla if the King of Monsters attacked Latveria or if he decided he needed to take Godzilla’s crown for some reason. His mind is unknowable, running plans across the multiverse to form a human supercomputer in his mind and very soul. A conflict with Godzilla could be a plot to gain control of the horde of monsters under the surface of the Earth in the new Monsterverse.

Marvel’s Godzilla, King of the Monsters, Explained
Godzilla once roared his way into the Marvel Universe, with the publisher’s comics pitting the radioactive lizard against numerous iconic heroes.
Doom’s mastery of magic and science makes him an interesting challenge for Godzilla. The iconic titan usually teeters on the line between sci-fi monster and mythical creature, bearing definable biological markers in some media and spiritual or magical abilities and origins in the next. Godzilla and Doom both went to Hell and back to get in tune with their powers. If Godzilla was set on attacking The Fantastic Four, Victor might rather join forces with the Kaiju to learn its secrets.

Classic Godzilla Is A Marvel Villain
Godzilla’s first non-cameo comic book appearances were in Marvel Comics. He went toe-to-toe with The Avengers and Marvel Monsters, and he’s popped in and out over the years in all his different forms. No threat compares to Godzilla’s destructive fury, so clearly the best Marvel Villain to stand up to him is Marvel’s original King of Monsters.
With the tagline that set him apart from every other Kaiju, Marvel’s Godzilla was unstoppable. Occasional crossovers made him seem far scarier than other building-sized creatures who rampaged through New York, and the combined might of Marvel’s greatest heroes was barely enough to slow him down. Another monster would always pose a bigger threat to the King, so making him face a former version of himself would be a battle for the ages.
Godzilla
The Godzilla franchise follows Japan’s Godzilla, a monster that is both enemy and friend depending upon the work he appears in.
