Hellverine is back in an all-new, ongoing series set after the events of its first volume. Hellverine is the fusion of Wolverine‘s son, Akihiro, and the demon Bagra-ghul. After originally possessing Wolverine, Bagra-ghul developed a heroic side, encouraging Akihiro to fight villains across the globe, albeit with some violence and bloodshed.
Akihiro received an impressive power upgrade after merging with the demon, something other Marvel characters have experienced as well. Like Ghost Rider, Hellverine is nearly immortal and can summon Hellfire. Many other Marvel characters could use an upgrade from the underworld, and several key heroes and villains with ties to characters like Mephisto or those seeking more power would make great demon hosts.

One Underworld Under Doctor Doom
Doctor Doom is no stranger to strange power upgrades. Doom is constantly empowering himself, often stealing the powers and abilities of others to fuel his selfish designs. Doctor Doom has used Stark tech to upgrade his armor, Doom has stolen the powers of the Silver Surfer and the Beyonder to become a cosmic god, and has recently tricked Doctor Strange into letting him become Earth’s new Sorcerer Supreme.

Creators
Stan Lee & Jack Kirby
It would make complete sense if Doom turned his desires to Marvel’s underworld. Doom has already achieved technological and magical success. Why not seek an upgrade from Mephisto’s realm? Doom would surely take over both the upper and the underworld with the added powers of a demon.

Spider-Man & Mephisto’s New Deal
Spider-Man, of all characters, has a surprising connection to Marvel’s devil, Mephisto. The two originally crossed paths in the infamous “One More Day” comic arc. Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson made a deal with Mephsito: trading their marriage for the life of Aunt May. As much as fans often speak ill of “One More Day,” Marvel could potentially have Peter and Mephisto interact once again.

Fans are currently reading Amazing Spider-Man and seeing Peter Parker gain a lot of wild upgrades. In the “8 Deaths of Spider-Man” arc, Doctor Doom gave Spider-Man a magical upgrade, and he’s even getting a Juggernaut-style enhancement. A Hellish Spider-Man could easily tie back to his deal with Mephisto, even connecting to Nick Spencer’s Amazing Spider-Man run with Kindred.

Magik, Sorceress Supreme Of Limbo
Magik needs no further upgrades. The little sister of Colossus is already the sorceress supreme of the Limbo world. On top of her natural mutant talents (the ability to travel between space and time through teleportation pads), Magik also wields the Soulsword and has a mastery of sorcery that grants her some degree of reality manipulation and energy projection.

Creators

Magik is a prime character to receive a Hellish upgrade. Limbo is already a dark dimension in Marvel Comics filled with horrifying creatures. Magik could absolutely use a boost from a demon, or Mephsito himself, to help keep her home in check.

Human Torch Could Use Some Hellfire
Hellfire would serve Johnny Storm well. As one of the members of the Fantastic Four, the Human Torch is a famous, powerful hero, but his flame body often comes with many drawbacks. The Human Torch can be extinguished, and his flames can only burn so hot.

After bonding with a demon, Johnny Storm could gain the ability to summon and control Hellfire, just like Ghost Rider and Hellverine. With this upgrade and the ability to keep the fires burning through supernatural means, the Human Torch could probably singlehandedly defeat villains like Doctor Doom.
6
The Punisher, Spirit Of Vengeance
One Marvel anti-hero who absolutely doesn’t need Hellish upgrades is the Punisher. Frank Castle is one of the most prolific killers in the Marvel Universe, but he only kills those who deserve it. Frank’s moral code is often illegible, but he’s an effective soldier. The Punisher has actually gained cosmic power in another universe.

In the Thanos ongoing series, an alternate Frank Castle became the Cosmic Ghost Rider, and one of the most powerful beings in that universe. If Earth-616 gained Hellish powers that put him on par with Ghost Rider, he’d become a true spirit of vengeance, destroying evil just like DC’s Spectre.

A Demonic Green Goblin Would Torture Spider-Man
Norman Osborn does not deserve a Hellish upgrade, but no fan could deny the incredible visual of a Green Goblin with the powers of Ghost Rider or Hellverine. The Green Goblin is already a demon in every way except for power. He’s been a blight on Peter Parker’s life for years, and Norman Osborn is no stranger to new powers.

Norman Osborn has attempted to gain magic, just like Doctor Strange. Green Goblin even bonded with the Carnage symbiote to become the Red Goblin. Alternate versions of Norman have even become Spider-Men. A Hellish Green Goblin makes so much sense and could pull Norman back into full villainy.
4
Blade Would Be The Ultimate Demon Hunter
Blade is Marvel’s number one vampire hunter, even debuting in Marvel’s old Dracula comics, hunting the most famous vampire king. Blade’s half-vampire/half-human biology has given him many advantages when hunting the undead, but he could use another courtesy of Hell.

With a Hellish power boost, Blade could not only travel in sunlight but walk the halls of Hell. Blade could be the ultimate vampire hunter, on Earth and in the underworld. Thanks to his vampiric genes, Blade is already nearly immortal, but bonding with a demon could give him the power to become a cosmically powerful Marvel hero.
3
Elsa Bloodstone Could Use Hellish Upgrades Against Marvel’s Monsters
Like Blade, Elsa Bloodstone is one of the best hunters in the Marvel Universe, though Elsa hunts monsters instead of vampires. Elsa has been a part of several notable Marvel teams, including the Midnight Sons and Fearless Defenders, but for all her skills, she’s still just a human who relies heavily on magical artifacts.

If Elsa Bloodstone accepted a deal from Mephisto, something that could plausibly happen, given her connection to the supernatural side of Marvel Comics, she could become a truly powerful hunter without reliance on artifacts or weaponry.

Archangel, The X-Men’s Angel-Turned-Demon
Warren Worthington III was one of the founding members of the X-Men, though he doesn’t receive nearly as much “screen time” as his fellow First Class X-Men like Cyclops, Beast or Jean Grey. Angel’s powers are impressive but not spectacular––a lot of characters can fly, after all. However, Angel is appropriately angelic with his giant white wings.

A Hellish upgrade like the one Hellverine received, such as Angel bonding to a demon, could taint that angelic image. Angel received a similarly dark upgrade from Apocalypse that transformed him into Archangel, a form even more popular than his original design.

Ghost Rider Needs Another Upgrade Like Cosmic Ghost Rider
After stuntman Johnny Blaze made a deal with Mephisto, he unknowingly bonded to the demon called Zarathos, which allowed him to transform into Ghost Rider, the Spirit of Vengeance, to fight injustice and evil. Ghost Rider has already received a Hellish upgrade, but how about another?

So many already-powerful Marvel heroes and villains constantly seek more power––Doctor Doom being a prime example. He’s never satisfied with the immense power he has. Ghost Rider could absolutely receive another Hellish upgrade. Maybe he bonds with even more demons, amassing an internal army of demons that further corrupt his soul but give him godlike power.
X-Men
Since their debut in 1963, Marvel’s X-Men have been more than just another superhero team. While the team really hit its stride as the All New, All Different X-Men in 1975, Marvel’s heroic mutants have always operated as super-outcasts, protecting a world that hates and fears them for their powers.
Key members of the X-Men include Professor X, Jean Grey, Cyclops, Wolverine, Iceman, Beast, Rogue, and Storm. Often framed as the world’s second strongest superheroes, after the Avengers, they are nonetheless one of Marvel’s most popular and important franchises.
