The Marvel Cinematic Universe is building to the explosive finale of the Multiverse Saga in an epic two-part event, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Recent leaked concept art suggests that the upcoming two films will include Battleworld, an amalgamation of multiple universes smashed together by a series of destructive incursions. The 2015 Secret Wars comic event by Jonathan Hickman uses Battleworld to pit recognizable realities against one another–and it seems the MCU will do the same thing.
There are endless interesting matchups that Doomsday and Secret Wars can bring to fruition on Battleworld. With multiple realities to choose from in its vast multiverse, the finale of the MCU’s latest saga can include the best fights in the history of the franchise. Iconic characters from different realities will clash in a fight for the right to survive–possibly including some of these interesting matchups.

Spider-Men Could Clash in a Web-Slinging Battle
The Spider-Man Variants May Not Be Friends When They Meet Next
Spider-Man: No Way Home fulfilled MCU fans’ grandest wishes by uniting all three live-action Spider-Men, but the next Avengers movies can turn this joy into tragedy. Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man variants bonded on their shared adventure, banding together to defeat some of the toughest opponents in their careers. They parted as brothers but may not meet as such when they come face-to-face again on Battleworld. A battle between the Spider-Men would be a fittingly tragic matchup for Avengers: Secret Wars, showing the true horror of Battleworld as three fan-favorite characters are forced to fight for the survival of their respective universes.
This would also be the perfect opportunity to explore which iconic Spider-Men would win in a fight between the three. While Tobey Maguire has the most experience, he is also the oldest and may be slower. Andrew Garfield is the stronger fighter of the three, having learned not to pull his punches in the years since The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Meanwhile, Tom Holland is the youngest, fastest, and most technologically advanced Spider-Man. Any one of the three could emerge the victor, marking what could be one of the MCU’s best fights in the history of the MCU.

Sony’s Spider-Man Universe Villains May Take on the Wall-Crawlers
A Sinister Six Team Could Fight the Iconic Spider-Man Trio
Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU) didn’t pan out as the studio might have hoped, but could still have a future in Secret Wars. The universe centers around known Spider-Man villains like Venom, Morbius the Living Vampire, Madame Web, and Kraven the Hunter. While the SSU’s endgame was never made clear, many fans believe that the franchise was building up to a Sinister Six team-up, which could finally come to fruition as a part of the MCU. Avengers: Secret Wars could pit the Sinister Six against the three live-action Spider-Man variants.
Instead of fighting each other, Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man variants could show how powerful they are united, taking on a team of the SSU’s strongest characters. Secret Wars‘ Sinister Six could feature characters like Venom, Morbius, Kraven the Hunter, and the Vulture, with two spots left open for other Spider-Man villains. Madame Web could fill the role, though she isn’t typically represented as a villain in the comics. Conversely, antagonists like Mysterio, Scorpion, or even Carnage could return to fill roles in the iconic supervillain team.

Marvel Zombies Could Take on the Apex Hulks
What If…?’s Two Post-Apocalyptic Realties May Be on a Collision Course
What If…? introduced multiple alternate realities from the main MCU timeline, including two particularly interesting post-apocalyptic universes. Season 1 saw the first look at the MCU’s Zombies timeline, where many of the world’s most powerful heroes were transformed into undead monsters, maintaining their powers after death. Season 3 saw an entirely different reality: gamma-radiated monsters united under the Apex Hulk to overtake the world, killing most of the Avengers.

Captain America: Brave New World Shows Only One Person Can Lead the Avengers in Doomsday
After Captain America: Brave New World, it’s now clear who should become the new leader of the Avengers in Doomsday.
Given that Marvel seems inclined to continue its Zombies storyline in a new animated miniseries later this year, this timeline could also return in Battleworld. While any matchup between Zombies and another Marvel universe will be interesting, watching hordes of superpowered zombies fighting an army of Hulks is nothing short of exhilarating. Moreover, these are two universes that Marvel can afford to let die, making the stakes even higher as they clash on Battleworld as audiences know that one or both could be destroyed in the aftermath.

Eternals vs. Inhumans Could Redeem the MCU’s Two Most Infamous Teams
The Eternals and the Inhumans Didn’t Get a Fair Chance in the MCU
Marvel Comics has no shortage of superhuman teams, many of which have been adapted into live-action with varying results. The MCU has tried its hand at adapting both the Inhumans and the Eternals, each failing to connect with viewers. The Inhumans appeared in a short-lived ABC series, quickly hailed as one of the worst Marvel shows ever. The Eternals later debuted in their own self-titled MCU movie, which failed to perform well at the box office, leading Marvel to falter on future plans for the superhero team.
The Inhumans and the Eternals represent two of Marvel’s biggest failures in recent years, but the MCU is known for embracing its failures and trying to make them better over time. Pitting the Inhumans against the Eternals would not only offer scores of interesting matchups but also give Marvel a chance to show just how amazing each team could have been under different circumstances. Their potential defeats would also open the door for the MCU to try its hand at adapting the Inhumans and the Eternals again in a post-Secret Wars timeline.

The Spider Society and the Deadpool Corps Would Create an Epic Battle
The Spider-Men and the Deadpools of the Multiverse Could Be Bitter Enemies
Two MCU characters are revealed to have various multiversal variants who work together across realities. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse introduced the Spider Society, a league of Spider-Man variants led by Miguel O’Hara. Together, they protect the Great Web of Life and Destiny, even if it means letting entire universes die. Deadpool & Wolverine introduced the Deadpool Corps, a predictably less organized league of Deadpool variants who enjoy coming together occasionally to brutally murder their victims.
Spider-Man and Deadpool fight often in the comics, and though the two characters have yet to meet in the MCU, it would be interesting to see their respective armies of multiversal variants clash in an epic war. As powerful as its members may be, the Spider Society would have its work cut out for it, contesting with an army of Deadpools, all of whom have healing factors. The Deadpool Corps may make short work of Miguel O’Hara’s Spider Society.

The Different Fantastic Four Teams May Fight
Three Iterations of the Fantastic Four Could Appear in the MCU
Over the last twenty years, Marvel has introduced multiple alternate realities featuring the Fantastic Four. The trend began with 2005’s Fantastic Four, which introduced a campy but fun version of Mister Fantastic, the Invisible Woman, the Human Torch, and the Thing. Ten years later, Fox rebooted the franchise with a bleak and all-around worse-received version of the team. Another decade later, Marvel Studios is taking its first stab at the iconic team with The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

At This Point, I’m Convinced Marvel Is Just Messing With Us Over Avengers: Doomsday
After multiple conflicting reports about the cast of Avengers: Doomsday, the Marvel Cinematic Universe may be attempting a new anti-spoiler strategy.
With multiple versions of the team set up across twenty years of movie history, it would be a massive missed opportunity for the Fantastic Four variants not to clash in Secret Wars. Marvel was willing to return to the previous Fantastic Four franchise by bringing back Chris Evans’ Human Torch in Deadpool & Wolverine. Now, all that is left is to bring the characters together for a clash to prove which version of Marvel’s First Family is superior (spoiler alert: it’s the MCU’s version).

Wolverine and the Hulk Finally Need to Fight
Deadpool & Wolverine Teased Marvel’s Most Anticipated Fight
For decades, one of the most iconic rivalries in the Marvel Universe was that between the Wolverine and the Hulk. These two heroes have clashed numerous times in both comics and animation. However, their battle has never yet been adapted in live-action. Deadpool & Wolverine teased a fight between Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk, but Secret Wars can finally deliver on this promise.
A battle between Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and the MCU’s Hulk would be a moment of wish fulfillment that Marvel fans may never have thought possible only a few years ago. Yet, the multiverse makes nearly anything possible, especially in a fantastical setting like Battleworld. A live-action fight between the Wolverine and the Hulk is closer than ever, and Marvel would be foolish not to give audiences what they’ve been asking for for years.

World War Hulk vs. Age of Ultron Would Be an Interesting Fight
Two Underrated Storylines Could Converge in the Multiverse Saga
Marvel has long been rumored to be developing a World War Hulk project, exploring what it would look like if the MCU’s Hulk declared war on Earth. This 2007 comic storyline is one of the Hulk’s best arcs, featuring him at one of his most powerful moments. While Marvel may not have time to unleash a full adaptation of this storyline before the end of the Multiverse Saga, Secret Wars could jump ahead, exploring a universe where the World War Hulk has already taken place, this time leaving the Hulk victorious.
This could even be revealed as an alternate universe led by Edward Norton or Eric Bana’s version of the Hulk. It would be difficult to pick an opponent capable of defeating an all-powerful Hulk, but an alternate timeline in which Ultron succeeded in reforming a world of metal would be an interesting choice. Seeing a savage Hulk leading his forces against an army of metal men could be an exhilarating sequence in Secret Wars that would elevate the film above all other Avengers projects.

Doctor Doom Could Take on the Council of Kangs
The Multiverse Saga’s New Villain Must Defeat His Predecessor
Many fans have theorized how Avengers: Doomsday will explain away the Council of Kangs, which was introduced at the end of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania as the next Big Bad of the MCU. Recent shakeups led Marvel to avoid the Kang storyline in favor of an arc focused around Doctor Doom. The next Avengers movie can bridge these two diverging storylines by pitting Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom against Kang the Conqueror and his variants.

Whether Kang is recast or merely appears onscreen, it would be a major step in the right direction for Doctor Doom to destroy the Council of Kangs at the beginning of Doomsday. This would leave one fewer plot hole in the Multiverse Saga as one villain replaces another. This would also show the sheer power of Doctor Doom, setting him up as a terrifying enemy for the Avengers.

The MCU Could Be Setting Up Avengers vs. X-Men
Marvel’s Two Greatest Teams Will Clash
Marvel fans have often wondered who would win in a fight between the Avengers and the X-Men–but they may not have to wonder for much longer. The MCU is heading toward a massive incursion event, seemingly with the Fox universe of X-Men characters. This suggests that Avengers: Secret Wars could depict a fight between the MCU’s Avengers and Fox’s X-Men on Battleworld.
This would be the most brutal (and fun) fight possible in Secret Wars, and it seems to be the direction that the MCU is taking with the upcoming crossover event. This confrontation would make for a fitting sendoff for Fox’s X-Men ahead of the rebooted franchise set to take place in the MCU in the coming years. This fight could even make up the climax of Secret Wars, ushering in the end of the Multiverse Saga and the beginning of a new era altogether.
